| Dolly Parton's Imagination Library |

There is compelling evidence that the earlier a child is introduced to books and reading, the greater the chance for a head start on lifelong learning, personal enrichment, and successful pursuit of opportunities.
Started by Dolly Parton, and sponsored by the Ferst Foundation for Childhood Literacy, the Imagination Library fosters the love of reading among preschool children and their families through the monthly delivery of an age appropriate book to a child from birth to the age of five. Children become excited about books by experiencing the magic books can create. Every enrolled child has access to books regardless of his or her family’s income.

Beyond the joy the Imagination Library brings to the child, important by-products include:
- Preparing the child for formal schooling
- Providing a sense of ownership and value as books arrive
- Increasing reading readiness, vocabulary and comprehension skills
- Encouraging healthy family dialogue and relationships
- Lowering the probability of adulthood illiteracy dramatically
The Imagination Library proved so effective in Tennessee, Dolly Parton’s home state, that it is included in the Tennessee state budget. The program is still building in Georgia so most of the funding must come from donations by citizens who see the value to our future.
